IPL Players That Can Surprise Everybody
The 2020 Indian Premier League season is going to be a bit of a strange one for fans, as it will be the first to be held entirely outside of India due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. While part of the cricket 2014 season was also held in the UAE, due to the Indian Parliamentary elections, this season will be entirely played in the Emirates and will begin much later in the year on 19 September. Still, despite the differences, this year is shaping up to be yet another classic season in a cricket tournament that just keeps getting better and better. Let’s have a look at which players fans should be watching out for in 2020.
Ben Stokes: Rajasthan Royals
A giant of the Test cricket game and widely regarded as one of the world’s best all-rounders, Ben Stokes has had a bit less of an impact on the Indian Premier League. While he was Player of the Tournament in 2017, he has since only returned average scores in the One Day form of the game in India and has hardly set the tournament alight. However, this is the first season after Stokes almost single-handedly won England the 2019 Cricket World Cup with excellent performances with bat and ball against South Africa and New Zealand, so it could be that 2020 finally sees Ben Stokes become the outstanding ODI player he has threatened to be for the Rajasthan Royals.
Trent Boult: Mumbai Indians
A new player on the Mumbai Indians‘ roster, Trent Boult might seem like an odd choice in a team already overflowing with bowling talent, but his trade from the Delhi Capitals this season is no accident. Mumbai cricket squad have one eye on replacing ageing legend Lasith Malinga, who is in his last few seasons in the IPL, and Boult is one of the favourites to do so. If he is to be the new Malinga, this is his season to prove it with his famous explosive style.
Jasprit Bumrah: Mumbai Indians
Another key Mumbai Indians cricketer. While all eyes are on golden boy Hardik Pandya, who is scoring sixes for fun at the moment, much of the Indians’ stopping power lies with bowler Bumrah. His powerful fast bowling in the last few overs has limited opposition scores and handed the Indians games several times in the last cricket season, and it’s him as much as Pandya that fans will look to for match-winning performances.
Josh Philippe: Royal Challengers Bangalore
A cricketer that is completely new to the IPL scene, but one who made waves during his last season for the Sydney Sixers in Australia’s Big Bash. While he is almost certainly going to play second fiddle to Royal Challengers Bangalore‘s Parthiv Patel, he adds much-needed depth to the cricket team and can use this season to show what he can do in the future and make a name for himself.
Yashaswi Jaswal: Rajasthan Royals
One of the Rajasthan Royals‘ new young cricket players who is famous already for his mature batting performances and his rags to riches story, his controlled explosions of batting power are going to be a big part of the Royals’ season this year after they picked him up for a huge Rs 2.4 Cr. The cricketer will need to both anchor the centre of the team and lead from the front, but he could end up as a Royals legend if he manages it.
Indian Premier League Promising Cricketers 2020
These are just a few of the most exciting cricket players to keep an eye on for the upcoming season as we find an immense potential in these cricketers. However, with the new season taking place in a different country with specific rules and regulations due to the COVID-19 outbreak, there will be a new factor when the “IPL champions” discussion is put in discussion.
The new season will unearth the strongest and psychologically well prepared cricketers which can bring to some big surprises in the Indian Premier League especially on the top cricket players list.
